Ali studied piano at Newcastle College of Arts and went on to pursue a varied career as a session musician around the world. After settling in Oxfordshire she started Spiderweb Musicals, writing shows for primary schools – www.spiderwebmusicals.co.uk . She is the rehearsal pianist for Oxford Operatic Society and the Musical Youth Company of Oxford. Ali joined Matrix Arts Centre in 2019.
