Art

Our Visual Arts Courses have been designed by Emma Hockley to mirror our music education at Matrix Arts Centre - with courses that are progressive, structured and creative. We aim to inspire and enable children and young people to further their engagement with the arts.

  • Key Stage 2 Visual Arts Course

Key Stage 2 Visual Arts Course

For those in school years 3 to 6

    Wednesdays 4 – 5:15pm
    Thursdays 4 – 5:15pm

Students develop skills in technical drawing (learning about line, tone, texture), observational drawing and expressive drawing. We use a variety of media and techniques including graphite, ink, charcoal, pastel and crayon, starch painting, graffito and watercolour.

Each lesson focuses on developing key drawing skills, beginning with a warmup and then on to a project that may run over one or two sessions that challenges and inspires students to take risks and develop artistic confidence.

  • Key Stage 3 Art

Key Stage 3+ Visual Arts Course

    For those in secondary school

    Thursdays 5:30 to 7pm

Students get the opportunity to further experiment with a whole range of materials they may not be familiar with. This allows them to explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings. Working with traditional and mixed media, confidence, imagination and creativity grows as they will learn to explore and appreciate art and creative risk taking. Their artistic vocabulary expands to include materials and techniques that they can add to their portfolios.

Run in small groups, there is time for 1:1 tutor input, to further help and encourage students to develop original ideas and artistic voice.
